Forest School

Curriculum Intent

At Alt Bridge School we are delighted to be offering Forest School as a fully recognised cluster subject within the Physical Development Curriculum.  Forest School is a child centred, inspirational, and non-judgemental learning process where we encourage our students to learn specific skills that they can then take back to their classroom environment.  They will work on team building, resilience, confidence, friendship and many more transferrable skills.  As the Forest School programme is experiential, the children are encouraged to plan their own activities but specific skills are also taught for application beyond the sessions.  All students have regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem via hands-on learning experiences in our unique, on-site woodland which the students have developed fantastically. We believe that Forest School enables students who face many challenges in the classroom, to develop new ways of learning and coping with the world and the indoor classroom environment, as well as the positive impact that the programme has on enabling children to be mentally healthy.  There are a number of additional cross-curricular benefits of the Forest School Programme as the PDC links strongly with the Arts Curriculum in developing a broader range of activities, as well as comfortably supporting and complimenting those students who also access the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
