Year 11 Overview

Upper school is currently taught in both year 10 and 11, following two separate strands of musical appreciation, both using AQA accredited units as a focus for progression.

•  Musical Appreciation using specific genres , for example 12 bar blues: pupils listen to and appraise various styles of the blues, including its origins, development and recent blues trends.

Pupils then engage in practical activities as they learn to play the 12 bar blues on specific instruments.

Pupils learn to play a Blues shuffle on the drum kit, adding to their previous knowledge of blues keyboard progressions and rhythm.

They begin to form a band using two instruments, along with introducing the voice as an instrument, adding lyrics when appropriate.
