YEAR 9: Overview

•  Composing and arranging styles

•  Learning notation using ICT programmes

•  Using iPads to facilitate the development of compositional elements

•  Using graphic score to re- notate previously composed music.

Term 1:

Introduction of notation using ICT software programmes, alongside conventional methods of composition and arranging styles.

Introducing MIDI instruments to enhance notation and compositional ideas.

Introduce metres, note lengths, musical symbols and duration into ICT composition work.

Term 2:

Refining compositional styles through the use of ipads: discussing and engaging in compositional forms eg A - B - A.

Using ipads to discover how introducing different instrumental timbres enhance different compositional styles; engage in the elements of AQA accredited UAS entry level, completing the unit(s) where appropriate.

Term 3:

Further refining of compositional styles using both ipads and ICT software.

Introduction of recording techniques using conventional microphones, ipads, itunes and burning to disc.

Further refining of composition work and engaging in class or whole year composition. Recording the compositions using conventional and digital devices.
