Spring Term

Binary and Control - Pupils start by understanding howcomputers are used to control a lot of what we use in society and how computers and other technologies communicate with each other. Pupils then learn how about binary and how computers use it to carry out their jobs. Pupils learn to convert whole (denary) numbers to binary and then denary numbers to binary, this also provides opportunity for cross curricular links e.g. math. Pupils follow on from being able to covert these numbers to gaining more understanding of how technology is controlled e.g. sensors on a car, ticket barriers at a station, boiling of a kettle.

Networks - Different networks are explored and discussed about what type of network is used where and what network is best suited for different establishments. The benefits of each network are looked at and what possible disadvantages could be with each network style.
